Introducing: Blend Requests!

We're releasing the very wanted Blend Requests on Blend Swap today! This has been a feature requested for quite a while. As Blend Swap's developer I've always known of this feature request, so this goes back at least one year, and now they have landed on the site!

What are Blend Requests?

Blend Requests is a way to enable users of Blend Swap to request for specific jobs they need done and lack time or expertise to complete the task.

Who can use Blend Requests?

Blend Requests is a premium feature of Blend Swap, and only users with any Unlimited Bandwidth Subscription (paid) can access the Request A Blend form. This is for a couple of reasons; 1, We needed an new, cool premium feature for Subscribers to thank them for their purchase; 2, If everybody had access to this form we fear there would be a flood of unanswered requests, and that would defeat the purpose of the feature.

Users with free accounts can answer to any requests at any time by tagging their blend with the unique tag each request provides you.

Blend Requests will be specially usefull for selforganized modeling sprints for movie and game projects since they'll be able to make a bunch of requests and their team members will be able to keep track of which requests are being worked on and which not.

How to use Blend Requests?

Requesting a Blend:

  1. On any page go to the user menu and select Request a Blend, this takes you to the form,
  2. Fill out the fields and select the required stuff you want in your responses, hit Submit Request and that's it. Your request will publish right away!

Responding to a Request

All users can respond any request on the site, to respond to a Blend Request do the following:

  1. Go to the Request's single page and look for the black box.
  2. Click the tag field and hit CTRL + C ( CMD + C on the Mac ) to copy the unique tag.
  3. Go to your blend entry and hit the Edit Blend Button. In the edit form, paste the unique tag in the Tags field. Hit Save Changes.
  4. Your blend is now linked to the Blend Request you intended to respond.
  5. Do the same for fresh uploads, just paste the unique tag into the Tags field in the Upload Form.

What else?

If, like me, you have problems remembering what requests you picked to work on, each request entry has a button to add it to your WIP queue, which displays on your profile as "Username is working on these Requests". Requests are automatically removed from this list when you respond to them.

We hope this brand new feature will expand opportunities on the site to let our users improve their Blender skills because it's very well known that you advance more as an artist when there's a goal to achieve.

So go ahead! Upgrade now if you don't have your subscription on and start requesting blends!

Notes:

Requests run indefinitely, they don't have deadlines, and we may not add deadline support in the future, so don't hold your breath on that. If your subscription expires, your requests are kept alive, but you won't be able to create more requests. Surprise! Use the offer code REQUEST20 and get 20% off your subscription purchase in the following 2 weeks, either yearly or monthly plan! Promo ends March 9th.
