Support Update: 3.0.1

Hello, Blend Swappers! Just a second ago we had the 3.0.1 update. This is a quick change log:

  1. Fixed all reported bugs
  2. The discover box is back! I absolutely love this little box, I missed it so much! Now it's quick and lets you connect with many more users much more easily. Let me remind you that it only shows users with at least one blend on the site and active in the last two weeks (here, active means logged in).
  3. Added a Twitter User Name field to profiles. You just fill it with your Twitter user name and a small linked button appears on your profile so other users and visitors can follow you.

We have made a minor change in uploads: since Blender is officially out of Beta Phase, Alpha and Beta versions of Blender are not supported any more from the upload form.

And talking about uploads, we have been experiencing a big deal of server troubles since Sunday May 1st. We were hit so many times during recent days that we had to take uploads down because the server was killing processes in order to attend others. The site has been running a bit better since this morning and Matthew had some of the hosting provider tech support guys over to troubleshoot the site, but it seems like the site cannot be optimized any further and we are still having CPU overloads and server timeouts. So, if you have some ideas, recommendations, or know your way around servers and would like to help, please leave a comment below.

We re-openned Blend Uploads again and are hoping it won't get stuck again, let's test it!

Also, and in addition to the server's troubles issue, and because the site's code needs more in depth work and ideas to make it better, We're making a public call for a second developer that wants to come aboard. You just have to be proficient in PHP (knowing the WordPress API is a good extra). There are some planned changes that need the help of a second, experienced developer, willing to donate some time to the site. So if you know PHP and the WP API, are good at making secure code and want to contribute please message me.

Finally, given the addition of Twitter linking, please feel free to leave a comment below with ideas about what other web services might be useful to have in your profiles.

Thank you for your time. I'll keep you updated with more geeky stuff.

Jonathan/SavageCode

PS: at the time this post was published we are expecting to have Blend Uploads back to normal on Thursday May 5th, 2011. More updates on the status of uploads can be found in the Submit Blend page itself.
