Here is a sword I modelled and textured in blender. Made texture using GIMP. 5042 vertices (edge split modifiers), 3090 quads/faces. 1024x1024 with some 512x512 textures I believe. No assigned materials.
The model itself looks quiete good actually. But your texture could be way better. I suggest you give the texturing another try by first creating the clean version of the sword. Make sure every material looks good upon rendering and then start adding some dirt and other signs of wear & tear.
Once you've got that mastered then you can skip the clean step.
I also suggest you leave out the fresh blood. It only makes sense to add blood when a scene demands it. not by default.
