K-141 Kursk was a submarine of the Oscar-class, known as the Oscar II,or class Antey. It was the second-largest attack submarines ever built, after the Typhoon-class submarine. Over the weekend of 12 August 2000, while on a naval exercise inside the Arctic Circle, the Russian nuclear submarine Kursk sank to the bottom of the Barents Sea with all hands on board. The blasts killed 95 crew members right away, while the remaining 23 submariners managed to survive the two explosions and take shelter in the stern compartment, where they managed to stay alive for eight more hours.
