Description:

While doing a work assignment, I downloaded Rui Teixeira's (SlykDrako) "Ciclos Town - 10 Male Characters (C.C. Zero)" and used it as a base. I liked the models that he did ok. But I was not happy that There was little in terms of creating simple facial expressions. So I used the original base model (included in the blend file) and "went to town" so to speak, and made several upgrades.

1.) The most noticeable change, is that I made 5 female character designs, since the original had none. 2.) added mouths and eyebrows which can be controlled with shape keys that I've already added. 3.) not a big fan of using UV Maps to dress characters, I simply created the clothing with simple mesh duplication, in order to give more volume 4.) Along with point #3, I added hair styles not found in the original file, some of which (in the female hair styles) that can be controlled with simple bones that were added to the rig.

I'm keeping the file as CC Zero, since that is the license of the original creator. But by all means, if you like the changes I made and plan to use it, let me know, I'd love to see what the rest of you blender heads to with these.

Awesome work! Ten characters (or variations of), one character per layer. "Hair controls" are a nice touch. One pose library controls all the characters.

Bad News #1: there are 5 images used for various purposes, but they weren't packed into the .blend, nor were they included in the archive - you're on your own. No idea what a "bm_base.png.001" is supposed to look like, so whatever I create must be right! ;)

Bad News #2: no controls for lips, jaw, nose, or eyebrows and no bone for glasses.

Shoot! Thanks for pointing them out KimberTLE. I'll take a look at the file again and see what happened to that image. If I remember correctly, that was the original "skin" texture.

As for the controls. I honestly don't know how to make any controls. I guess I'm so old school, I still just use key frames with the shape keys themselves instead of using controls. Didn't think to create a bone for the gasses either, since I tend to parent the glasses to the hand/finger bone when needed, and I guess I'll shut up right now, since I probably just gave away how old I am XD (been a blender head since the really old days when I was fascinated when we had the bones, but we had to actually build our own rigs XD)

But that being said, if you look at the shape keys, there should be some of the controls you're looking for. Simple mouth shape keys, smile, eyes, and eyebrows

Hey I really like what you did with this simple yet nice characters, I would like to use them (With some very few modifications) for some illustrations on a children e-book I'm thinking to make. Is it possible with the given license to use them? Possibly I would charge a fee (or donation, still not sure) for those stories. In any case, I would like to know if I can use them commercially and to give the proper credits to the creator(s) Thanks in advance!

Hello @coldbanken! This blend and the original it is based on are under the Creative Commons Zero license, which means they are public domain and can be used for commercial use without having to buy a license or even credit the creator. So you are good to go!

Here's a link to the Creative Commons Zero license if you would like to know more about it: https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
