For me, it usually comes down to who's coming along and how much effort I wanna put in. If it's just chill vibes with a few friends who aren't big on trimming sails all day, I lean toward something with more space and less heeling over. A catamaran ends up winning out a lot because you don't feel like you're living at an angle, plus the layout lets everyone spread out without bumping elbows constantly. Sailboats are awesome if you love the quiet glide and working the wind, but they can tire you out quicker on longer stretches. Motor yachts? Super convenient for covering distance fast, though they burn more and sometimes feel less connected to the water. Lately I've been checking out options on https://getboat.com/when planning—it's handy for seeing what's actually available without committing right away. Just my two cents from someone who's done a mix of all three; no one's perfect for every scenario.
