Description:

Cupid and Hygieia, Relief in marble, after the originall model from 1837 (A371), Thorvaldsen museum (Copenhagen, Denmark). Made with Memento Beta (now Remake) from Autodesk. Hygieia is the goddess of health. Here she is permitting a snake, the symbol of medicine, to drink from a bowl held by Cupid. The message is that love brings health. In Greek as well as Roman mythology, Hygieia, was the daughter of the god of medicine, Asclepius, and Epione. She was the goddess/personification of health, cleanliness and hygiene. In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupido, meaning “desire”) is the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. He is often portrayed as the son of the love goddess Venus and the war god Mars, and is known in Latin also as Amor (“Love”). His Greek counterpart is Eros. (Wikipedia)
