Description:

This is my first ever rig.

Its a very simple but functional one.

The wheels spin automaticaly in the direction of motion when the rig-cage on layer to is moved on its X axis. The steering wheel and front wheels can turn by using the steering controller on layer 3Also the doors, front trunk and motor trunk can open can be animated with the controller on layer 3Transparent windows and a basic interior with dashboard finishes it. There is a simple odometer and a navigation screen although non functional yet.

All the items are in different layers to better manage it all.

The car model itself is on layer 1, the rig on layer 2 and the rig controllers on layer 3.Have fun and feel free to give positive feedback :)check out the devblog about this car on my website

Hello, I appreciated this work. Would you have an idea to make rolled the vehicle in a normal way?

    (Sorry from my bad English)

Hi, Not sure If I understood correctly. If you mean making the car move and the wheels turn on layer 2 there is an object called car-box. that is the main object to move the car. Moving it forward or backwards on its X-axis will make the car drive forward and backward with the wheels wheels turning. With the controller object on layer 3 yo ucan control the different aspects of the car. the steering control makes the front wheels and the steering wheel turn left and right. the other controls are for the doors, bonnet and trunk.

    I hope this helps.

Great low poly model. Rigging looks good. But for some reason I have not yet worked out, the wheels appear to rotate when you rotate the car-box on the z axis (turning corners). Or on the y axis (going up hills). Even when the car-box is not moving on the x axis. The transformation constraint on the wheels looks fine, so I don't understand why the wheels are turning when the car is only rotating.

Also, I parented the controls (steering, doors etc.) to the car_box, and placed it behind the car so when the car moves, it follows. I have seen this as common practice in several tutorials.

Thank you for your message nanobug. To be honest I have no idea why the wheels are rotating when turning the car-box on the Y or Z axis. I guess maybe that on the z axis the x position changes a bit and the the constraint 'feels' this. But in principle... when the car make a drives around a corner or drives uphill... that should not be noticable since the wheels turn allready from the forward motion... right?

As for parenting the controls to the car-box... you are right. I forgot about that when I was making the renders. thanks for mentioning.

do you have an animation to show from the rotations of the wheels?... or any other cool stuff you' re making with it :)

    hi,

I guess to make it work in blender internal you have to change the materials. Unfortunately my planning does not allow me to convert it.

Hi. Can you tell me how I would duplicate this? I would like to create a street with many cars on it. I thought that an array modifier together with a curve modifier would do this. However, if I only select the box, the car model won't be duplicated. Similarly, if I select the mesh, the box and the tires won't get duplicated. If I merge the mesh, either the cube gets solid or the car wired.

Any idea on how to do this?

@Nearoo Basically what I would do is delete everything but the car. Resave that file. Then append (f1) it into the scene where you planned on making the street and repeat the process until you get as many cars as you want.

sorry about the delay. To be honnest I have no idea how to solve the question you have. One way to do it I guess would be by making a group of the whole setup and instantiate it... question is tho... do you really need the whole setup for a street with many cars on it? I created this based on some tutorials I found on CGCookie. maybe you can check these out and adapt what you need to you project.

Wish I could be of more assistance but I made this more than 2 years ago. I kinda forgot about the details a bit

Why don't you make a tutorial on YouTube on how to make it?? It will be helpful for many and you'll also make some reputation as car rigging in blender is one of the most searched topics of blender.

Really great model! I have one question. It is probably a simple fix, (I'm new to this stuff) but why do i get the effect of the transparent glass when the camera is in the car? I thought it was just for the glass material, but it also has the effect for the rest of the interior of the car.

    Thank you for sharing!
