Help us, help you not get sued!! We've implemented a new feature in Blend Swap called Fan Art. Basically this is a checkbox that you click in your edit blend panel that adds the Fan Art Disclaimer. Please help us and yourself out and go through your models and mark any that have copyrights as Fan Art.

Amazing, isn't it. This looks just like any robot a child would draw, just like I drew when I was a child. Why not just call it an HG.Wells robot. HG wells didn't sue MARVEL, DID HE?

So does this mean that if I upload a real gun I have to mark it as fan art?

its more for fan art of like this type where the character is actually owned by a company and they have the rights to it commercially for films games ect., with a cc liscense you are able to use stuff to make money but you cant do that with this model because someone else owns those rights. but like the first poster said you can always rename it and use it for money but you will also have to have some money for the legal process involved in fighting to use it. In games though they do use porsches ferraris ect and give them diff names. but also they have a bankroll to fight the litigation in court which im sure most of us starving artists cant afford to do. But if you do by all means push for artists rights over copyrighted material i have only agreed with copyrights for what they were intended for to make the person behind the material money for a set period of time not forever. But you know the rich have changed the laws that now their great great grandkids will own the rights so if we want to change the laws by all means get a team of lawyers and fight for it but i dont have the time or the money to.

It is wonderful to see this addition. It always buged me that some guys offer their valuable work and time for free without knowing that it is not allowed to do so (like copying iron man and say its free to use). With this additional Mark there will be less confusion.

Yay! This is something I've been hoping for - blendswap is such a great site for sharing, but so much is models of IP belonging to others - but I definitely still want to see it! I'm excited to see this. It's great.

I hadn't noticed much fan-art work before this fan-art mark was made available. At any rate, I like it because I have browsed TurboSquid and saw many things that are fan-art for sale and most of the more obscure fan-art models of I had no ideal were fan-art with could get me in big trouble.
