Description:

Another medieval house. Built in the same style as my other medieval blends.

Trying to build enough houses for a small village. I reuse a lot of parts between the blends.

Hey, are you using your modular building system for this? I would really like to see a tutorial about how to use it, it's really interesting!

Well, the modular system was mostly done for use in Unity 3D. This time I build the models mainly for use in a blender images and animations. I do test them in Unity 3D though and I also reuse many parts from the modular blends. I haven't been able to do a good tutorial for it, but I wrote a short description. You can find it here:

Where'd you get these awesome textures from?!

Some I've done myself, others I've found on sites online. It's a bit tricky with textures from the net since not all allow redistributing them. Some might allow it if it's an integrated part of a model but not standalone. Here are some sites for example that I've used: http://texture-free.blogspot.it/ http://texturelib.com/ http://texturer.com/ http://opengameart.org/textures/all

Sweet would you let me to attempt to make a game with these models? I'd credit you of course.

Of course! I released them as CC0 so you can do anything you want and don't HAVE to give me credit. It would be nice if you did though, but I don't require it. Also would nice to see what you do with it :) I have things coming. Next is a church that I will upload in a day or two hopefully.

You've done some really nice work on these models, Daniel. I'm taking the liberty of porting them for some module builders to use in Neverwinter Nights 2, where they are working out very well. Thank you!!!

That sounds great! I haven't played Neverwinter Nights 2 for ages now. Would love to see what you've done there. If you publish anything, send me a link if you can :) Or a screenshot or anything. :)

Sure thing. Here's a pair of early test screen shots on photobucket:

    http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a493/rjh405/NWN2_SS_100414_124151_zpsaa8932d3.jpg http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a493/rjh405/NWN2_SS_101214_194349_zps235f60b7.jpg

With these, I wanted to see how well they worked in the NWN2 environment. They seem to be a good fit.

Note that I did make a few little changes so they would work in the game. The models were scaled up by about 30% so that the standard game doors would fit the openings nicely. I also swapped out the blue-hued windows for some of the game's standard window textures, so they would fit the surroundings better. Finally I needed to remap the textures to a single file because of the way rendering works in NWN2. The models are tintable, so the look can be adjusted for different settings.

Overall I think they will work out very nicely. Thanks again! :-)

Seems like those two images were deleted, but there was a list of images at the bottom so I could see http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/rjh405/media/NWN2_SS_100414_124151_zpsaa8932d3.jpg.html Glad you managed to fix the model to fit NWN2. Didn't even think of that when I made it :)

Thanks for the buildings, you've saved me days of work, here's a couple of things I do to make them usable in Unity-

Think you changed the url. Seems to be https://sites.google.com/site/terrymorgan1213/tutorials/unity_model_import now. Glad you found some use for them and yes, the first once aren't that unity friendly. Not that the newer ones are perfect either, but at least better I hope :) I wrote a bit on how I got the newer ones into unity when I tested them. It's at http://silveralv.blogspot.se/ I did something similiar with the old ones as well. Anyway, glad you found some use for them :) Thanks for sharing with me!

updated this tut, shows how to make a mesh collider in blender. The unity learning 'stealth' project has a whole level with simplifed mesh colliders made in maya. The mesh colliders you make in Unity are just copies of the actual mesh, if it's 6000 faces, you get a mesh collider of 6000 faces, useless.

Thanks a lot for the information! I haven't used Unity that much so it's good to find a better way to handle mesh colliders. I also appreciate all the input you gave on the models since that's something I'll think more about in the future :)

You're welcome, reload that tutorial 'unity..' I put the new building link on it. There's a pack of your buildings on opengameart, can't get a texture to load, path is \MODULARBUILDINGS\HOUSEPACK2\EXPORTED but no texturing

The textures are packed inside the blend. If you go to the texture tab of a material, there is a little icon under Source, next to the path to the file. Click on that and you can save the texture to as a file on your harddrive.
