Description:

This a texture I made from some oak leaves I found in Tampa this morning. I think they're red oak leaves.

I used my scanner to grab the images at 600dpi, so they are extremely high resolution. Included in the .zip file is the front and back of one leaf, which is also alpha-masked, bumpmapped, specmapped, and occlusion-mapped and can be found packed in the blend file; and the .blend file that has a sample leaf material.

I have three more leaf front-and-back scans, and one of them is a brown leaf. They're not mapped yet. Do you want me to map them and upload them?

Note that I left out the occlusion map in the leaf material because I thought it was unnecesary, but you can basically just drag and drop it right in. There's a great texturing tutorial on Blenderguru.com.

Also: There are a couple floating nodes in the leaf material that you can use to randomize color if you attach them to the diffuse node. It's mostly all set up, so I think you can just figure it out if you're already familiar with that kind of thing.

If you aren't familiar with that kind of node setup, then check out the random leaf color tutorial that Blender.org's video and text tutorial page links you to.

I can't find the random leaf color tutorial link, and can't even find it via a site-specific Google search.

Would you be able to make a tutorial of how you map the textures? Or failing that, could you recommend one please?

This leaf is really amazing. It looks crisp and substantial.

Am I too late to ask for the other three leaves you've scanned? Or at least the brown leaf. That could be intresting.

I haven't mapped them, but I can upload the textures. Mapping takes a long time (especially since all I have is GIMP. GIMP sucks). The maps I did were just a sample material, anyway.

The way I did the bump map in the green leaf was with GIMP's emboss feature, the spec map was made with emboss and lots of brightness/contrast tweaking, the occlusion map I think I made with a threshold after embossing and messing with brightness/contrast. Note that I did the spec maps on the leaves separately to make the bottom face shinier.

Thanks, by the way! That scanner is awesome, two or three times as detailed as HD. I bet these textures are totally useless in animations because they're just too detailed. I'm thinking about scanning some grass and making a super- freakin' realistic grass field (like blenderguru) soon.

TL;DR: Thanks! I'll upload the textures, won't map them, will probably do grass soon.

Okay, I will be glad of the scans.

I can't get it to upload. Weird, maybe the files too big. I'll try again later. Sorry.

HEY!! I resent that I use GIMP as well and it doesn't suck lol I have made an animation with GIMP and some textures with with it not to mention my Resource Pack textures for Minecraft lol :p
