Inspired by the "Greyhound" music video by the awesome Swedish House Mafia, this project took me around 30 hrs. to complete(I know I'm slow). Blender Internal rendered it in 4 mins.
My main focus was creating visual appeal while keeping the production time to minimum. Modeling was fun. I started by modeling an actual greyhound, and then I added all the weird gadgets to turn into a robot hybrid. This way I could preserve most of the natural curves. One of the hardest thing was of course posing them since they weren't rigged. Especially "Goldy", that's what I call the one in front, was very frustrating to get him to stretch like that. Lighting is very basic just a sun lamp, some blue tinted environmental lighting and some AO. Texturing incorporates both procedural and image-based textures. I hardly did any composting except some DOF and chromatic aberration, what I usually avoid but which I found necessary for the lens effect. I can't take credit for the lens/telescope outline/frame around the edges. It is from the actual video which I cleaned up in GIMP. But everything else I did myself.
The blend file contains all of the materials. The textures are included with their configuration but not the images themselves(No image files). But you can find most of them on CGtextures.com. I have to admit this is a very messy scene, I was in such a rush that I never had time to name object appropriately. Don't be surprised if you find some unnamed curves flying around in space. Here are the layers though.
Layer 01 - Backdrop, Camera and lighting. Layer 02 - Ground. Layer 03 Goldish Robot. Layer 04 - Blue Robot. Layer 05 - Reddish Robot and on the last layer(20) you can find the greyhound basemesh.
Enjoy!
P.S. It is compressed as a RAR file so get PeaZip(http://www.peazip.org/) to extract it, its FREE and open source.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR COMMENTS AS HARSH AS POSSIBLE. :)

Amazing , I knew the movie but I did not know the 3D was made with blender. Impressive animation.

I need to know, the creative commons, is there a copyright I need to know about? as something like this would be perfect for my film, but we hope to make money from it, so is this exactly like the Swedish Mafia video or are the liberty's?
Zero4mike
@independentmayhem its not exactly the same as the video. you can use my models as you wish.
independentmayhem
Thank you. Once I'm able to rig it this will be perfect. I'll send you a copy of the film when it's finished
