Spent the day making a complicated shader using some new features in Cycles... only to have second thoughts and come up with a better, simpler shader in 5 minutes. :D Model and textures by Lee Perry_Smith (also released under CC-BY licence)

Yep, the model and textures are by Lee Perry-Smith - he released them under a CC-BY licence, so everyone uses it :)

You guys are going from strength to strength. I so want to learn to do Cycles materials (this is 4th-year stuff, of course). Carefully studying all these shaders. Thank you SO much for this one: you've even impressed non-Blender folk!

It's awesome, keeping in mind it's in 2.63. But don't you think the ear is a bit too darky?
