UPDATE: Now it renders twice fast without any visual change of you can spot!

Also fixed some muted nodes that make the final render looks bad.

I wanted to test Cycles performing landscapes, so i setup a quick scene with 54K instances of two tree meshes each one aprox 200K and 150K polygons, the blender memory indicator displayed about 200MB and the process window showed about 500MB ram so there is a bunch of memory left to put a lot more. Nice!

This will-AND I MEAN WILL-Go into the Staff picks. IT HAS TO!!! ITS TO GOOD!!!!

This is amazing. It took 3 minutes 41 seconds and some change to render the existing scene in the blend using my GTX 560 ti card. I must get busy and analyze this.

Cant wait to get home and try it on my two 570s :D

This hangs Blender quite nicely if you forget to choose Cycles as the renderer... XD

Give me a moment while I pick my jaw off the floor...that's better...no, still speechless!

Worked great with my 5 year old 8800 and measly 2 gigs of RAM - Note to self - instance instance instance!

This is just...WOW O.O I will study this extensively. Thank you for sharing! :)

Awesome work. Thanks for sharing!

Please tell me that cycles can render particles now

Not particles as such yet since they aren't physical things, but it can render objects you emit with a particle system

great work and thanks for sharing !

Thanks very much fo sharing this amazing scene an render !

To run the script, you have to scale an ant landscape like 150 times, to make the dimenion be like 300x300x80 xyz. if you keep at 2x2 original size it will ony reset weights to 0.

Fantastic, I can hear dinosaurs. :)

i could not believe it.. now i turned up to 10 times more than your tree amount and it works with GPU without any problem.. I think you have to advertise blender so that everyone knows how amazing these times are for blender users. Thanks alot

Any chance we can convince you to do a tutorial? I've been trying to learn how to do a scene like this for the longest. Thanks for sharing.

I'll scheduled to do the tutorial, i got many requests so promised!..And it will have many more cool techniques and ideas that i have. (When it is finished i'll put the link to the video in the Blend description) hopefully will be next weekend around April 21.

wow so awesome. I really love the compositing

This is great... thanks! a tutorial would be sweet... but deconstructing seems to be easy... thanks again!

This scene is brilliant. It's a tutorial all by itself. True, there are mysteries hidden in the development of this scene that a tutorial would help elucidate, but just studying the components is teaching me so much about this new renderer and the material set for it. Agus, you've created a scene that rivals what can be done in Vue 10! Well done - you should be proud of yourself. Artists like yourself bring Blender to a new, lofty, powerful status. It is seriously difficult to imagine this incredible programme is still free.

This is amazing! Thank you, sir!

doesn't work

Works perfectly fine for me, make sure you have the right version of Blender and your using cycles before claiming something doesn't work.

Could you make it a zip file for me, i am on a mac, and it doesn't read the vlc file properly. It would greatly be appreciated!!

Can you please do a tutorial on textures and materials in cycles because i am have difficulty using them and seeing that you have mastered it i thought i would ask. Great model by the way

there are a few useful cycles intro videos out there, for example the one on www.blenderguru.com But I always sticked to BI because cycles is pretty slow without a good Gpu

This is one of the best scenes ive ever seen!!

whaaaaat, i cant beleve my eyes
