I've been learning a little python lately and I got it into my head that I wanted to figure out a way to do a kind of matrix code effect. The result uses Atom's timer based frame update script to handle the frame change updates, and some scripts of my own to generate the columns and materials and randomize the digits.
Instructions included in the blend file.

Cool. Plus, it's very informative on scripting. However, people should be aware that the default grid (used to make the columns) is large. At first I thought it was crashing blender, then I made the grid smaller.
